ABSTRACT: Innovations in Competency-Based Education Models for Technical Fields are essential for adapting to the evolving demands of the workforce. This study explored the implementation and effectiveness of competency-based education (CBE) models in technical education. The objectives were: to assess the current use of CBE models in technical fields, to evaluate their impact on student learning outcomes and employability, and to identify challenges and best practices in CBE implementation. A survey design was selected for its ability to gather detailed insights from a broad sample, enabling a thorough analysis. A sample size of 250 technical education students and instructors was chosen using a purposive sampling technique to ensure participants had experience with CBE models. The case study was the Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna State. Findings indicated that CBE models significantly improved student learning outcomes, provided clear pathways to skill mastery, and enhanced employability. However, challenges such as resistance to change and the need for extensive instructor training were noted. It was recommended that technical institutions should invest in training for educators, provide resources for CBE implementation, and engage industry partners in curriculum development to ensure relevance.
